Chapter 20 – How to promote team collaboration

Team collaboration is essential for productivity. In this Chapter, we will present you a series of Gitscrum interaction features for your daily and weekly work with your staff. Learn how to use these resources together with the essential GitScrum features, to optimize your tasks and results. Gitscrum is a smart amazing platform, but keeping communication active depends on you. Here, we will teach you how.

Discussions

Promote collaboration and exchange ideas with your team, by adding Discussions to your projects:

Create a Discussion from the Sidebar
  1. Open your Project.
  2. Go to Project Settings > Project Labels > Sidebar – Macro Features.
  3. Make sure the Discussions feature is enabled (✔️).
  4. On the Sidebar, click Discussions > Create a new discussion.
  5. The “Create a new Discussion” screen will open:
    Select the project where you want to include the Discussion.
    Type the name or question of the Discussion.
    Click the “Create new discussion” button.

  1. Open your Project.
  2. Go to the header bar.
  3. Click the Create Button (+).
  4. Click Discussions.
  5. The “Create a new Discussion” screen will open:
    Select the project where you want to include the Discussion.
    Type the name or question of the Discussion.
    Click the “Create new discussion” button.

Edit a Discussion
  1. Open your Project.
  2. On the Sidebar, click Discussions.
  3. Click the name of the Discussion you want to edit.
  4. Click the pencil (?️) icon inside the Discussion to edit it.
  5.  The “Edit Discussion” screen will open. Edit its name/content.
    Notice you can use rich formatting, just like in all other text boxes in GitScrum.
  6. Click the “Edit Discussion” button.

Participate / Reply in a Discussion
  1. Open your Project.
  2. On the Sidebar, click Discussions.
  3. Click the name of the Discussion you want to participate in.
  4. Below the Discussion name/title, your page will show all the replies so far.
  5. Right below them, use the “Reply to Topic” text box to write your answer.
  6. Click “Post Reply” to publish your answer. Next, it will appear above as published.

Delete a Discussion
  1. Open your Project.
  2. On the Sidebar, click Discussions.
  3. Click the name of the Discussion you want to delete.
  4. Click the trash/garbage can icon (?️) to delete it.
  5. Confirm “Yes” to “Do you really want to delete?”.

Task Comments

Optimize work adding suggestions, requirements and solving doubts about your Tasks:

Add a Task Comment
  1. Open your Task.
  2. On the “Comments” tab, you will see all the Task comments published so far.
  3. Right below them, use the text box to write your comment.
  4. Click “Post Comment”.

Edit a Task Comment
  1. Open the Task.
  2. On the “Comments” tab, you will see your comment(s) published.
  3. Click “Edit Comment”.
  4. On the “Edit Comment” screen, edit your comment in the text box.
  5. Click (x) to close, and the comment will be updated.

Delete a Task Comment
  1. Open the Task.
  2. On the “Comments” tab, you will see your comment(s) published.
  3. Click “Remove Comment”.
  4. Confirm “Yes” to “Do you really want to remove?”.

Mentions

To recall your colleague’s attention in your task comments, you can use Mentions, so they will be immediately notified:

  1. Open the Task.
  2. On the Comments tab, type @ and the name of the team member, and your comment.
  3. The comment will appear next to the team member name, and he/she will be notified in GitScrum.

Assign & Collaborate

In Chapter 7 about the GitScrum Board, you learned how to assign Tasks to one or more team members, and details on how to remove a team member from a Task. All you have to do is open your Task on the GitScrum Board and click the User icon to make assignments.

Notifications

Notifications are useful to let team members be aware of task updates.

Configure Notifications for a Project
  1. Open your project.
  2. Go to Project Settings > Notifications.
  3. Activate the “Team member is assigned to a task” key.

Reference Videos and Attachments

In Chapter 7 about the GitScrum Board, you learned how to fill in your Task card details, including videos and attachments.
To add a video to a Task, use the Videos tab on your Task card.
To add an attachment (document/file) to your Task, use the Attachments tab on the Task card.

To insert / embedd a video in the Task description, use the Video icon (?️) on the Task Card:

Calendar

The GitScrum Calendar is available to show all your Tasks in a calendar format. This way, you can visualize your appointments and assignments for the month.

Navigate on GitScrum Calendar
  1. Open your project.
  2. On the Sidebar, click Calendar.
  3. View your Tasks.
  4. Use < > arrows to navigate from one month to another.
    Remember the Calendar feature will only appear in your project, if it is enabled in Project Settings > Sidebar – Macro Features.
